I was in the Gym trying to train off a niggling hip injury. By 4:30am the next day, the pain was so bad that my wife had to drive me to Casualty. Having registered my arrival, I looked at the board and saw a six hour delay for treatment. So be it, it is what it is and will take a long time to get things right - there is no quick fix.
Within ten minutes I was in with the triage nurse and she took a very detailed history and arranged some pain relief. I was moved to a corridor and about 15 minutes was seen by a nurse (I believe her name was Sarah) who was extremely professional, very friendly and reassuring and she arranged for an X-ray.
Again, the x-ray team were absolutely brilliant and I was soon on my way back to the nurse, who again explained exactly what the findings were, what I needed to take medication wise and issued me with crutches.
From the moment I entered A&E I was treated with the utmost professionalism and courtesy by everyone I encountered. What really shone through was despite it being 4:30 am and coming to the end of a no doubt busy night shift, I was treated with so much care, attention and empathy by the staff. I cannot thank them enough.
