"My Dad and his stroke"

About: Doncaster - Community Nurses / Community Nursing - Central Doncaster Royal Infirmary / General medicine Doncaster Royal Infirmary / General surgery Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

My wonderful Dad recently had a stroke, and although the ambulance service was in high demand they arrived within an hour and 40 minutes, did their checks and got him straight on to the ambulance and off to DRI.

On arrival, two wonderful ladies from the stroke unit were waiting outside and took him straight in for a CT, from there up to the Stroke unit where he was swiftly given the medication needed. The whole team were incredible.

He unfortunately suffered a second event, which again was dealt with so quickly, and was then whisked to the operating theatre to save him. Dad spent just 4 days in hospital thanks to the amazing team that he had around him and is now recovering well.

From the bottom of our hearts our family thank everyone that helped Dad, without their superb care he may not still be with us -  the ambulance service, the staff on the stroke unit, the staff in CT, the District Nursing team, and everyone who helped Dad, we will never be able to repay you for what you did that day and the days after.

Thank you so very very much. We hope the treats we bring in keep you all in good spirits, your shifts may be long and arduous but your love and care and compassion are worth them and so much more ❤️
