"Long wait for discharge"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Lothian Birth Centre Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Was held on maternal triage for hours before a bed became available. Then afterwards, I had in my birth plan that after the 6hrs I wanted to be discharged no matter what time if all was well with baby and myself (which it was), but I  was still there 27hrs later  waiting to be discharged.

Dear quebecnr59

I hope you and your family are well.

thanks for the feedback and I am very sorry to read that we were not timely in our care for you.

As you will be aware we are a high risk centre of care and provide complex care to people in need of this. Due to this it means that we a high demand for beds and we do our utmost to respond to needs of the service and this can in turn have a delay in beds - we do sincerely try to mitigate this and explore all options to prevent this as much as possible. I am sorry we had a delay for you and appreciate how frustrating and upsetting this was for you.

on discharge we aim to to do this timely as this releases the beds for new admissions. Holdups are due to many factors and again we cannot always overcome them despite planing and facilitating plans to ease the pressure.

If you want to contact me for an an individual review I am more than happy to do so if you feel this would help.

Kind regards

Fiona lumber
