"Fistula surgery"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran University Hospital Ayr / Accident & Emergency University Hospital Ayr / Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) University Hospital Ayr / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

Went to my GP with a fever, pain in the perineum and swelling. Dr Miller immediately admitted me to the CAU in Ayr, who then admitted me to Station 2 for surgery. The next day, a drainage of abscess and a stitch was performed, I was discharged home the next day on antibiotics.

Thought I was fine, went back to work. Then the pain returned, worse than ever before, I couldn't even sit, it felt like being stabbed up the backside. Or like sitting on a hot, infected chicken with bones sticking into you.

Anyway, phoned 111, who sent me to A&E Ayr. They were very good provided pain relief, sent me back to Station 2, where they tried to take the stitches out, but it didn't work, it was agony. Then I was sent under general anaesthesia to theatre, where Dr Alishahi fixed the problem and inserted some other drainage device.

I feel like a different person, the pain is gone, the staff were fantastic, they're all ran off their feet. So polite and caring, professional and funny when it's needed.

Special thanks to Dr Miller, Cathcart Surgery Ayr, A&E Ayr, CAU Ayr and Station 2. Sister, Natalie, the Carolines, Karen, Elaine, the two fantastic student nurses, Mr Alishahi, the auxiliary team, the domestics, the porters, the young College Student (forgot a few names, so sorry, you're all great).

I've not felt this good in weeks, the medical and emotional care was outstanding. Yous are a great wee team, will bring some goodies around.
