"Basic needs not being met"

About: Victoria Hospital / Rapid Access and Discharge

(as a relative),

My gran was an inpatient in ward 9 while she waited for a package of care to be put in place - luckily she was only in for a few days as I was shocked at the treatment she was given.

To name a few things she was left in the toilet for an hour over lunch time, even though she was buzzing to get out which resulted in no lunch as it was cold. None of the patients in the bay were offered a wash on the Saturday.

What I find most concerning is the nurse was trying to give my gran medication that was for the patient in the bed next to her, if my gran didn't have her marbles she could have taken these. The nurse was asking where her inhaler was and my gran told them several times that the pod they were looking in didn't belong to her.

There was no ID check when giving medication (witnessed by myself). I feel that this could have resulted in a huge error which would have went unnoticed.

As a nurse myself, I understand the pressures on staff these days, however I find it embarrassing when a relative is treated this way and their basic nursing needs are not being met.
