Had swollen sore knee which ended up with me being admitted to the RAH for clean out surgery.
I was admitted to ward 23 and subsequently it ended up I had sepsis and necrosis on my lung, I ended up on the ward for 3 weeks even although I ended up with more than an orthopaedic procedure.
I cannot praise the staff enough - nurses Roxanne, Abbie, Nicola, Tracy and Jen to name but a few, they made my stay a little more bearable from picking me up when I was down, giving me reassuring hugs , Roxanne in particular for little things like blow-drying my hair for me to making me feel a little better about myself (and the hugs).
Also the other staff - Jackie, Rachel (Rachel's hugs were great), student nurse Susan, a lovely person who I felt I really connected with. These simple things that may not seem a lot to other people were so welcomed when your stuck in hospital, even the little chats with the staff about mundane things when they had a spare minute were fab. I felt that they went out of their way to make my stay as good as it could be.
I could babble on all day but long story short ... I actually enjoyed my stay as much as anyone could have for being stuck in hospital and I cannot praise ward 23 highly enough. I hope not to have to be there again, but if I had to be then what a lovely bunch of staff to be around .
"A lovely bunch of staff"
