"Forever grateful"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 2 North Respiratory medicine

(as a relative),

My terminally ill mum was a patient in 2 North for approx 8 weeks and I can honestly say the nurses, including the sister were amazing throughout. Incredibly empathetic, warm, friendly and were happy to answer any questions or assist in making my mum comfortable and as peaceful as possible in her final couple of months.

As mum was in hospital she was unable to attend my son's 1st birthday party, but a wonderful nurse called Alannah set up a video call for mum so she wouldn't miss the party. Meant a lot to both me and mum. I felt content leaving mum in their care until I returned. So very grateful for all of the staff and to one of the staff in particular (Tracy) who encouraged mum to eat and brought her friend down to visit her from another bay in the ward. Really demonstrates a holistic approach to health care. Thank you to you all, you're a credit to your profession. Keep up the good work!

If I had one critique it would be the lack of timely information provided in the form of literature to assist in end of life care/decision making. I received a very helpful macmillan booklet for this a few days before mum passed away from a lovely social worker in the integrated care team (Lisa Marie), and I feel this would have been extremely helpful after meeting with the lung cancer specialist nurse before mum's discharge who had explained mums revised prognosis.
