My father-in-law as brought to the Ulster hospital ED by ambulance on the 3rd April. He was a palliative patient and became very unwell. Although the department was extremely busy, he was seen and treated very quickly, with dignity and respect by all the staff. He was admitted to ward 3E where he was given the most wonderful care.
As a family we knew that he was end of life and that his wish was to return home to be with his family. Once the staff in the ward was made aware of his and his family’s wishes they did everything possible to allow this to happen. Within a day of admission a plan was put in place to facilitate this and by the next day my father-in-law was home with his family. We were blessed to have him home and to look after him for the short time before he passed away. He indeed was the loveliest father and grandfather and it was an honour to care for him.
With all our heart we would like to thank the care given by all the staff who were involved in his care. We as a family, would like in particular to extend our deepest gratitude to Rhonda (lead nurse for Unscheduled Care) who collaborated with a number of disciplines and continually involved our family to allow my father-in-law to return home. We are under no illusions that this was no easy task but we will be forever grateful for all her help. Thank you once again to every member of staff in the Ulster hospital, our experience was an overwhelmingly positive one, we could not have asked for more.
