"Superb team work and care"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / 23 Hour ward (ward A) New Stobhill Hospital / Pre-Operative Assessment clinic New Stobhill Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics New Stobhill Hospital / Xray and Scans

(as a service user),

Recently I had a uni knee replacement at Stobhill. I cannot fault the amazing care I had. From my conversations with Denise, Mr Jones’s secretary, to my visit to Mr Jones at his consent clinic where everything was so well explained, to the pre-assessment clinic, to my visit to theatre where I had a completely painless spinal anaesthetic and nerve block performed by Prof MacFarlane and his StR Dr Meaney and felt relaxed enough not to have sedation which I never expected to be able to do.

They were great at keeping me talking and distracted. The entire theatre team were all very supportive and professional both pre op, in theatre and in recovery. And I’ve had a very relaxing day in Ward A where I’ve been looked after very well by all the nurses and health care support workers,  a quick visit to X-ray where I was taken by a very friendly porter and looked after by the radiologists, and been seen by Danny the ortho physio who was very patient with me doing my exercises and really encouraging .I should also mention Kieran  the ortho pharmacist who phoned me a week before and went over all he options for post op pain relief and things to deal with the complications of those. At every stage I’ve  felt listened to and that I had a choice and role in all the decisions.  And the food was good too!

This amazing group of people made this as pleasant and inclusive as possible. And listening in on the ward this is the care they provide to everyone. It did feel like realistic medicine.

I also noticed some innovations like giving me a drink in recovery to make sure I felt better post op and giving me Tranexamic acid tablets to reduce post op bleeding. These wee things probably make a big difference and really show a team working together to bring in measures for the benefit of their patients.

I’d just like to say a huge thank you to them all for making something I was absolutely terrified about a positive experience. They all deserve a gold star!

Dear Sleepless55

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your incredibly kind and detailed feedback following your recent uni knee replacement at Stobhill. We are absolutely delighted to hear that your experience—from your initial consultations right through to your recovery—was so positive and reassuring.

It’s wonderful to hear about the care and professionalism shown by Mr Jones, Denise, Prof MacFarlane, Dr Meaney, and the entire theatre team, as well as the support you received on Ward A from our nursing staff, porters, radiology team, physiotherapist Danny, and pharmacist Kieran. Your recognition of each person’s role and the teamwork involved means a great deal to us.

We’re also really pleased to hear that you felt listened to and involved in your care every step of the way.

Your mention of small innovations like drinks in recovery and the use of Tranexamic acid is very much appreciated—they are part of ongoing efforts to enhance recovery and improve patient outcomes, and it’s encouraging to see those being noticed.

Please be assured we will pass on your kind words to the entire team involved in your care. Feedback like yours is a huge boost to staff morale and reinforces the importance of the compassionate, person-centred care they strive to deliver every day.
