"I feel so lucky to have had this experience"

About: St John's Hospital / Infant feeding service St John's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I just want to praise the staff on ward 11 at St. John's hospital for their support with helping me to breastfeed. My baby girl had lost 14% of her body weight in the first few days after birth and we were readmitted to St. John's for 3 nights to support with feeding.

The staff were brilliant and really welcoming. I would especially like to thank Claire who was there during the day and escalated her concerns when baby became very drowsy and difficult to rouse. But I would especially like to thank Kirsten who was working nightshifts. She was absolutely brilliant and so patient supporting me to get baby to latch and spent so much time with us. She had a lovely and friendly manner as well. The team who delivered the meals and teas and coffees were lovely as well and really cheered me up with their chat when I was feeling really low.

6 weeks later baby is now exclusively breastfeeding and is absolutely thriving. I couldn't have got through it without the team at St. John's and my amazing community midwife Angela who recognised how overwhelmed I was feeling and coordinated my care to get me and baby to the right place. I feel so lucky to have had this experience. Thank you.

Firstly, may I congratulate you on the birth of your baby girl. We really appreciate you getting in touch at this busy time in your life to provide us with your feedback, it is very much appreciated by all our staff.

I can only imagine this would have been a particularly worrying and stressful time for you when she had lost this weight initially and I am glad to hear you felt welcomed, staff were reassuring and provided you with the support and care you both required during your admission and with that continued support in community.

It is fantastic to hear you are both continuing to do so well, now 6 weeks on.

I will be sure to share your lovely comments with all the staff, including those you have named. They will be delighted to hear you are doing so well. Thank you.

Best wishes
