I got finally diagnosed in 2018 with Crohn's after a long battle with a doctor who didn’t listen to my symptoms, and ended up with a pernianal abscess. It was then that a general surgeon done a cal protection text and bloods, I got an urgent referral to the GI department.
Thank the heavens I ended up with a doctor who listens and acted straight away. A Nurse specialist, Michelle, phoned me as soon as my consultant gave over my information. Michelle took the time to talk to me and explain what would happen next.
Now I’m not an easy patient and I do make my health the butt end of my jokes but the whole team that has met me has accepted me with kindness. Michelle has went above and beyond listening to me deflect and then truly open up about how I was feeling about my diagnosis. That was the first time I truly felt listened to. The whole team go above and beyond always but that will always be something I remember.
The IBD team have truly went above and beyond through many trial and errors due to my body just not agreeing, a bowel resection later I am still here because of this team and their fast acting nurses and consultants.
Even now they still fight for me to receive the care throughout the board.
The IBD team helped save my life and I will forever be thankful for the service and care I have received throughout my many years of being a patient. These guys are honestly angels.
