"Birth trauma"

I suffered birth trauma 5 years ago and had a second child which triggered my trauma from the first birth. As a result I have been suffering with post natal depression which has been affecting my day to day life.

I visited Chris -  East London NHS Foundation Trust, Bedfordshire Talking Therapies - who made me feel welcome in such a way that I felt that I could tell him anything, there was no judgement, he wanted to hear my story and helped me understand what went wrong.

Being South Asian, there is a typical stigma attached to our culture of not talking to anyone outside your family if you need help, however Chris made me feel comfortable to say what I needed to and reassured me that everything will be kept confidential.

The care has been exceptional, even on days he could tell I didn't want to be there or felt anxiety in talking to him, he would always place my mind at rest and I would come out of his room  feeling like I was able to express my feelings adequately. 

I came to Bedfordshire Talking Therapies after struggling with postnatal depression, triggered by a traumatic birth experience five years ago and reawakened after the birth of my second child. I didn’t know what to expect, especially as someone from a South Asian background where there’s often stigma around seeking mental health support outside the family.

Meeting Chris completely changed my perspective on EDMR. From day one, he made me feel welcome, safe, and genuinely heard. There was no judgement—just compassion. He helped me make sense of my trauma and reassured me that everything I shared would remain confidential, which meant so much to me.

Even on the hardest days, when I felt anxious or reluctant to open up, Chris had a way of putting me at ease. I always left sessions feeling lighter, like I could finally express what I’d been holding in for so long. The care I’ve received has been exceptional, and I can honestly say it’s made a huge difference in my life. Thank you, Chris
