"Day surgery at Llandough hospital s.wales"

About: University Hospital Llandough / General Surgery

(as a relative),

My mother was instructed to attend the CAVOC department to undergo day surgery. She was also instructed not to eat or drink after midnight prior to her appointment. My mother had her last meal and drink at the night before she attended hospital. Whilst at the hospital she was left on the ward for 4 hours without anybody coming to check if she was ok or to explain the circumstances of the long wait.

When my mother got up from her bed to find a doctor or nurse to speak to she was informed that she was fourth on the waiting list and the second patient was currently in theatre. This was at in the early afternoon, and it was 16 and a half hours since my mother last ate or drank. I phoned her to see if there had been a change in the situation only to hear she was still waiting to be seen. I am very concerned about the long period of time my mother has not had water or something to eat, I fail to see why she was instructed to attend the hospital as early as she did when she still hadn't undergone surgery. The matter would not be so concerning if she was allowed at least have a drink of water or if the development of the situation was being communicated to her regularly by staff on the ward. I am very concerned about this level of care displayed by Llandough hospital.
