"Everyone was very friendly, smiley and attentive"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

I had to attend RHC A and E due to him being under 5 years old and minor injury would not see him and advised to attend. My Son managed to get two splinters in his fingers and I could only manage to get one out. He was in pain and would not let me near it, very red to touch. As a Health Care Professional myself I know how much pressure the service is under and Staff and felt a bit of a fraud attending A & E with this however I was concerned due to the redness and pain he was experiencing and didn’t want it turning into an infection.

I expected to be there for the long haul as I was aware this was not Urgent and other Children were sick and needed seen to more urgently than my boy. From the moment I stepped in A & E and was greeted with a very friendly male staff member ( in light blue ) who asked what the issue was and eased my Son with a few stickers. Everyone we came across was very friendly, smiley and attentive. We were seen within a hour and half and the lovely Male Doctor managed to get the splinter out and my boy even got an Easter Egg for being very brave.

I know how much pressure the NHS is under and the waiting room fairly filled up however you would not think this with the way each Staff Member was. It was my first experience at A & E with my Son and it was a very positive one.

Dear Mummy9123

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your recent experience of attending the Royal Hospital for Children's Accident & Emergency department. We truly appreciate your thoughtful feedback, especially given your understanding of the pressures facing the NHS.

We’re very pleased to hear that your son was made to feel at ease from the moment you arrived, and that staff were friendly, attentive, and reassuring throughout your visit. It’s heartening to know that even during busy periods, our team’s dedication to providing compassionate care shines through. We'll be sure to pass on your kind words to the staff involved, including the male nurse and doctor who helped your son — and we’re glad he enjoyed his Easter treat.

Please don’t feel hesitant about seeking care when you're concerned — especially when it involves a young child in pain. You made the right decision in bringing him in, and we’re pleased we could help before things developed further. We also truly appreciate your perspective and understanding as a fellow healthcare professional.

Thank you once again for your lovely feedback. We wish your son a swift and full recovery.

Kind regards

Kevin
