"No water available in waiting area"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Outpatients

(as the patient),

I have been undergoing chemo for the last 6 months, and on several occasions it has been delayed due to meds not in Cherry brook, meaning l have sat for up to 3 hours, not a real problem, but this must be the only waiting room in the RD&E Wonford without water being available, resulting in people becoming dehydrated before their treatment starts.

I cannot fault the treatment within the ward, the staff are excellent, but WATER in the waiting area would greatly improve any wait.

Hi Twinkle230

Thank you for your feedback.

I'm really sorry that you haven't had access to water whilst waiting for your appointment in Cherrybrook.

We have explored having a water machine in this area but unfortunately the access to water pipes wasn't suitable for one of these to be installed.

We recognise the importance of hydration for our patients and would encourage everyone to bring a water bottle with them for their appointment however we recognise that if there any delays these might need to be refilled!

In the short term I have asked the ELF cafe and the reception team to ensure that there are fresh jugs of water and cups put out each morning for patients to access. Long term we are looking at buying some water dispensers.

Thank you for your kind words about the nursing teams and for providing some useful feedback.
