"Exceptional, professional, empathic and patient"

About: Cardiology / Cath Lab bay Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency Control The Ulster Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

To whom it may concern

I live alone in Donaghadee and at approximately 0200 hours I awoke and was experiencing breathing difficulties  - I realised I was 'in trouble'

I phoned NIAS - the female caller handler was amazing - gave me instructions calmly and reassuringly and remained on the line until the para medics arrived about 10 minutes later they both were incredibly professional and calming -I was quickly transferred to UHD and quickly admitted to ED where I was seen seen by 3 great female doctors - after assessing me I was transferred to the RVH where a call-out team where waiting for me - I had a stent fitted and transferred back to UHD and was under the care of Dr Donnelly and Dr Smyth(I think)

Every member of staff from domestic to auxiliary to nurses to phlebotomists (One of whom clocked up 18,000 paces in a shift - quite a 'dander!) - where exceptional, professional, empathic and patient

At a time when are great NHS is under extreme pressure and unjustified criticism - HOW DARE THEY

I would be extremely grateful if my remarks and comments are shared with ALL relevant departments, including NIAS

Yours in gratitude

Good morning Qdi2025,

Thank you for taking the time to share your valued feedback. We are always grateful to those who share their experiences of the services they have received. It was heartening to learn of the professional and calming approach of the call handler and the paramedics.

I would like to share your feedback with them and in order to locate them I would require the following information:

- Date and approximate time of the incident.

- The address the ambulance was dispatched to.

If you are happy to share this information, I can be contacted at Neil.gillan@nias.hscni.net.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Best wishes,

Neil
