"Thyroid Ultrasound impending!"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Xrays and scans

(as the patient),

I was referred to the endocrine team via my GP in January, after concerning x-ray results showing a lump pressing against my Trachea, who then forwarded me onto the ultrasound department.

I finally received an ultrasound appointment recently, however was only made aware of this three days prior to the appointment and so had to reschedule. Disappointed to have no way of speaking to a person about rescheduling, only an automated reply asking for a request to be made after the tone and warning that there’d be no call back. From doing this I’ve received no further response, and have no idea when to expect another appointment date or if they’ve even acknowledged that I’ve requested this be rearranged.

During an already high stress and anxiety inducing experience this is disappointing. It would be nice if at bare minimum there was even a small acknowledgment message sent that a patients voicemail has been received and will be dealt with, though I’d much prefer having the ability to speak to an actual person and have confirmation that my appointment is due to be rescheduled.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us on Care Opinion.

I am truly sorry to hear about the challenges you have faced whilst trying to arrange your ultrasound appointment. I can only imagine how frustrating and upsetting this must have been, especially during such an anxious time, and I sincerely apologise for the difficulties you have encountered.

I have shared your story with the Radiology Department, and they would really appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns and to provide you with a detailed response and the support you need. May I please ask you to contact the Patient Experience Team, either by email at loth.feedback@nhs.scot or by phone at 0131 536 3370 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm) to provide your personal details. This will allow the Department to look into your situation further.
