My daughter had her tonsils removed recently. We requested a pre-med beforehand and she was given this in a timely manner before her surgery.
We had nurse Caitlin and Amanda looking after my daughter - and they were great. Nothing was too much of a hassle. We were all treated with great care. During pre-op, as a mother watching her daughter get upset etc I got very emotional and all surgical & ward staff were very supportive and reassured me.
After my daughter’s operation, she was tended to every 30 minutes - on the dot! They made her experience fun and really helped relax her when she was scared.
I was taken down to collect my daughter in recovery very promptly, so she didn’t have to wake up without me there - this really meant a lot to both me and my daughter.
All questions were answered, everything start to finish was explained and we were never left not knowing. Dr Bannister came by after the surgery to check in with my daughter and answer any questions we might have had. He was very attentive, and was absolutely great throughout every appointment prior, right up until after the surgery.
Really positive experience for our family. It’s a big deal trusting strangers with the lives of our children, but every staff member we came into contact knew what they were doing, and were so professional and caring with everything they did.
My daughter and I left the hospital and forgot to get a toy out of the treasure chest, so later returned and unfortunately the unit was closed. Luckily Nurse Amanda was still there finishing up for the night and allowed my daughter to go in and choose a toy - this topped off a perfect experience.
This was my daughter’s first ever surgery. I’m very grateful that she has left with a positive experience.
Thank you all who cared for my daughter.
