I have progressive Multiple Sclerosis and am housebound. I spend my waking hours in a wheelchair and depend on carers to help me get in and out of bed and with using a commode.
Last September when I came out of hospital, Laura, Gail and Alison from the Alton physiotherapy team started visiting me to see if I could gain even more independence especially with being able to transfer from my wheelchair especially to the commode.
They have helped me enormously, they are all so friendly and even though it's been quite a long process I'm so impressed with how well I've got on.
I always felt safe with everything I did.
The first equipment I tried was was banana board.
It took a while but with help and encouragement I'm now pretty competent using it.
The second piece of equipment is a rotunda.
Again with their help I'm competent in using it on my own. It means if I need the commode now I don't have to try and wait for a carer to come.
All of the physios showed great patience and the way they taught me gave me so much confidence. I wanted to succeed not only for myself but for them too.
They always listened to me if I had any questions and we often ended up having discussions about what suited me best and easiest.
I have had several follow up phone calls between visits to see how I was doing which I always appreciated.
All three ladies have put in a lot of time and effort with me and I really appreciate it
I can do things I never dreamt of being able to do when I left hospital.
A massive thank you to you all.
