"Care for my dad"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gastroenterology (Stomach and gut problems) Wards 8b, 8c &8d

(as a carer),

My Dad was transferred from another ward within the hospital following a very difficult journey from admission due to poor service infrastructure and care delivery from medics and nursing.

I spoke with the charge nurse immediately to fill her in on the diabolical care my Dad had received up to this point to help her understand the very anxious family she was about to inherit.  She was incredibly kind, patient, understanding and she shared this with her senior charge nurse and all other team members.

I had a discussion with senior charge nurse when she was available and again she was informed, honest, kind, patient and very confident in her team's ability to manage my Dad's care.

Although we were sceptical at first, we gained confidence in this team and they were wonderful. The healthcare support workers were second to none, I will be grateful forever to them for the time and energy they took when looking after my Dad. They got to know him, had all necessary equipment in place quickly, looked after him in ways which made sense for him as an individual.  These staff were always visible, always cheerful, always helpful.

This ward achieved the basics with ease and getting to know them was a pleasure. Thank you for everything you did for my Dad.

Dear branpq63

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience regarding your father's care.

We are truly sorry to hear about the difficulties your father and your family faced during his initial admission and transfer. Please accept our sincere apologies for any distress caused during that part of his journey. Feedback like yours is vital to help us identify where we need to improve and ensure that we learn from these experiences.

At the same time, we are incredibly heartened to hear about the compassionate, person-centred care your father received once he was transferred to the new ward. We are proud to know that the charge nurse, senior charge nurse, healthcare support workers, and the entire team made such a positive difference and helped restore your confidence during what was clearly a challenging time.

Your kind words about the staff being kind, attentive, and respectful of your father as an individual mean a great deal. We will ensure your comments are shared with the team involved—they will be encouraged and honoured to know the impact they had on your family.

Thank you once again for your thoughtful message. We send our best wishes to you and your family.

Kind regards

Kevin
