My mum sustained a severe head injury as a result of a fall. We were all very shocked by the sudden turn of events and the seriousness of her condition. Sadly she passed away 2 days after her fall. The staff in ED and Ward 201 were excellent. We would like to thank the staff for the care, compassion and respect which they showed to my mum, my family and I during these 2 days. They helped to make an unbearable time almost bearable. We had contact with so many staff that I don't recall the names of all, but we would like to thank them all for their support and care. And to those whom we spent more time with: Eimear, Molly, Paul, Helen, Emma and Faye in 201, thank you.
Despite this being a regular occurrence for the team, they always placed mum at the very centre of decisions made and made us feel cared for too. Having worked in healthcare for over 30 years, I was often thanked by patients and their relatives for the small things I did for them. I now appreciate that so much more, having experienced it as a relative. The small thoughtful gestures mean so much during such a difficult time. Please keep doing what you're doing and know how much you're appreciated.
