I’ve been back and forth with countless sessions of DBT, CBT, counselling… the works.
I was always the person who said “counselling never works, what a waste of time.” I was always pressured to do homework or constantly reminded of the end of our sessions. It made me not have a positive attitude towards the end goal, towards my own self esteem or self worth. This time however, with the help of Anna, I was able to take things in my own pace. Instead of finding excuses to do homework or find solutions to issues, I worked with Anna and pressed on. It took me a while. Some laughs, some cries and even days when I couldn’t attend the sessions, but I persevered. I understood that in order to get the results I want, I need to put in the work and the effort to make sure that I did just that. Anna has been great, easily the best therapist I’ve had. Granted our conversations have strayed from topic a few times but she has always remained professional, patient, respectful and supportive. I truly feel that having someone who understands, greatly benefits the outcome of the therapy. Anna has been a friend, a therapist, someone who listens and someone that I can say has really shaped me and my outlook on life. Before our sessions I was very emotional, lost in my own self doubt and was destructive to my own mental health. Don’t get me wrong, there were days I wanted to quit. But like I said before, if you don’t put in the work you’re not going to see results! I can honestly say that after many years of going back and forth with many different therapies, I really feel that I won’t be returning anytime time soon. Hopefully never again. Thank you to myself for finally putting in the work I so desperately needed and a huge thank you to Anna, for putting up with me and my crazy hardwired brain. If you’re looking to change your outlook on life and are ready to make that first step towards your future and your own mental health, I highly encourage you to take this journey.
You might not be ready today, you might not be ready tomorrow but when you are ready and know you want to make that change to benefit your self, seek therapy. Only you can make that call, and only you can benefit from your actions.
