"Heart attack recovery"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Cardiac rehabilitation New Victoria Hospital / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

From the time the ambulance crew arrived until the time I had finished my cardiac rehab, the service I received was second to none.

While in hospital I read all there was to read about cardiac rehab as I wanted to get back to my normal life as soon as possible, after about 2 weeks at home I contacted the cardiac rehab team at The New Victoria.

I had an appointment almost immediately to explain my medications and why I was on them, my next step was an appointment with William in the gym to assess my fitness level. Everything went well and William gave me a programme to follow during the next few weeks and phoned me at home to find out how I was coping and if I needed any further assistance.

During this time I was also in the care of Jagjeet, who was monitoring my blood pressure, taking bloods to make sure my liver and kidney functions were still in the normal range and making sure I had no side effects from all this new medication which I was now on and adjusting the meds as required. Jagjeet and the team made this unfamiliar environment calming and very personal ensuring I was at ease at all times.

I feel the cardiac Rehabilitation department should be the first place  for   everyone without exception after  a cardiac event to ensure that they are following the recommended guidelines to aid their recovery and get back to their normal life as soon as possible. I can't thank Jagjeet ,William and the team at The New Victoria cardiac rehabilitation department enough on helping me with my ongoing recovery.

Dear Klt362,

My name is Hilary and I am one of the physiotherapists in the cardiac rehabilitation team at the New Victoria Hospital, Glasgow.

Thank you for sharing your story.

It is good to hear you got an appointment quickly and that you were given information regarding your medications and William was able to provide you with a programme to follow and provide reassurance with follow up phone calls.

I will pass on your kind words to Jagjeet, William and the team. They will be delighted to know that you found them calming and very personal and you were made to feel at ease at all times. Your feedback about your care received means a lot.

We wish you well with your continued exercise journey and are pleased you found your time in Cardiac Rehabilitation rewarding - keep up the good work.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience.

Kind regards

Hilary

Hi KIt362,

I'm really sorry to hear about your heart attack and I hope the recovery is going well.

I'll leave my colleagues at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to come back on your wider comments but I just wanted to thank you for your kind comments about our staff at the Scottish Ambulance Service. It is much appreciated and great to hear that the care you received from them was second to none.

All the best and take care,

Mark
