"My husband's experience"

About: Kent & Canterbury Hospital / General medicine William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My husband had a stroke and I took him to A&E at William Harvey. After a few hours we were told to wait in an overcrowded area where patients were obviously very poorly. All beds along the corridor were full, all cubicles were full. It was Dickensian. We asked if we could wait in one of the waiting rooms which were much more pleasant but we were not allowed to.

Fortunately Canterbury Hospital requested to receive my husband and we were taken there by ambulance. It was a different world! Such a relief! The contrast between the 2 hospitals could not be more different. We were met by staff who were expecting him and he received superlative care from the nurses and doctors from then onwards. It was brilliant. A really good example of the NHS providing fantastic service. The stroke unit at the hospital should receive all possible accolades. Thank you very much.
