"Physical activity sessions in Belfast City Hospital"

About: Clinical Haematology / Ward 10 North - Haematology Oncology / Physical Activity Classes

(as a service user),

I was recently a haematology inpatient in Belfast City Hospital for around 3 months. I was referred to Joe for support in maintaining my physical fitness during a long stay in hospital.

I started Joe’s program during a period of intense chemotherapy. At the beginning I was pretty anemic so struggled to get through the sessions without feeling breathless and lightheaded. Unfortunately this meant I had to stop the first few sessions before getting through all the exercises. Joe was very understanding and good humoured about my limitations.

The sessions with Joe were great for keeping me active while on the ward. Joe also provided a YouTube video so I could keep up my fitness throughout my stay. I also found the sessions beneficial for my mental health as they gave me a goal to focus on. Joe is an excellent coach - super encouraging and motivating!

Hi asteropezs38

Thank you so much for taking the time to voice your thoughts on the service provided by our physical activity coach. I am so glad that you benefitted from the face to face sessions on the ward provided by Joe and that they were tailored to your ability on the day. It’s great to hear that you found the YouTube videos useful. As you mentioned, exercise is so good for your mental health alongside the more obvious physical benefits. Please continue to keep active and I will make sure to let Joe know about your great feedback.

Kind Regards
