"Amazing team of people"

About: Community Services (Adult Physical Health) / Rotherham Neuro Rehab Community Service

(as the patient),

I had been having dizzy spells and seizures for a couple of months but before I had any diagnosis as to why they were happening I had one at the top of the stairs at home and fell all the way to the bottom head first.

The next thing I remember is being in the back of an ambulance on the way to Northern General Hospital Sheffield.

The fall resulted in 4 broken vertebrae in my neck and a small bleed on the brain. I was cared for in critical care for 2 weeks before being transferred to the spinal injuries unit there. I had a pacemaker fitted whilst I was on critical care.

I was discharged from the spinal unit after 4 months but felt like I had no help or support at home until the Neuro rehab team got in touch.

They have been absolutely amazing and I have been able to carry on with exercises at home with their help and guidance.

I have been helped along the way by a dedicated team of physiotherapists,

Louise, Lisa and Roz but mainly Paul and Occupational Therapist Darryl who I cannot praise highly enough for their dedication, hard work and support.

I really feel that without them I wouldn’t have seen the improvement I’ve made and hopefully will continue to make.

I need to mention my specialist nurse Asha. She has been such a support to myself and my wife. Nothing is too much trouble and she really cares. A very dedicated nurse and a lovely lady who has helped us through some difficult times. It’s so comforting having her support, everyone needs an Asha in their lives.

Amazing team of people!
