"Support, kindness and positivity"

About: Kilbryde Hospice Kilbryde Hospice / Clan (Compassionate Lanarkshire)

(as the patient),

My story started with a diagnosis of with stage 4 cancer. Despite having great family support i felt isolated with very little hope for the future and was having dark thoughts.  I decided to contact McMillan support.  They in turn put me in touch with Kilbryde Hospice.

From the moment I stepped in  the front door I felt welcomed and understood.  The kindness I was shown made me know i was in the right place. I took part in Reiki sessions which helped me immensely.  I was invited to take part in a 12 week support group. Initially I didn't think I would benefit from this, but how wrong was I.  After a couple of sessions I started to really enjoy the group. We did various activities which were very enjoyable. The staff were wonderful, as were the other attendees. I really benefited from the 12 weeks I was there.

Later on I was invited to join another group held by Clan.  This was a smaller group and everyone fully participated in events such as yoga and Tai Chi, to name just a couple.

I will be eternally grateful for the support, kindness and positivity shown to me by the staff during the most difficult time of my life. It has made a huge difference to my mental health and outlook.

I now feel part of the Kilbryde Hospice family and know that if i need help and support in the future they are there to provide it.

Dear Macboy

Firstly, on behalf of everyone involved in your Kilbryde journey, I would like to say a huge thank you for your Care Opinion post.

I personally remember the apprehensive and sad gentleman who walked into the hospice for that first meeting and now take great pleasure in seeing how you shine whilst living with your cancer and no longer letting it define who you are. This is the prize for us as a team.

We all enjoyed your sense of humour which returned, and the many comments that would float about from staff, volunteers and fellow attendees as to 'what a great guy you are'.

You encountered many areas of our services, but I can see form your comments, that each one contributed to increasing your confidence and mental health.

We strive to embrace you as the person you are and to help you find that person again and to live your life to the full and I am so glad you feel this is now the place you are in.

Please continue to be part of the hospice family and know we will always be here to support you and those important to you.

Very best wishes

Sine MacDonald CLan Coordinator.
