"It was the calmest place to be"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Breast Clinic University Hospital Monklands / Breast Clinic University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I found a lump in January, went to doctor was sent for mammogram ,had scan and biopsy same day ,it wasn't the lump I could feel but a different one I couldn't feel ,I got my results primarily that day by a doctor but were confirmed by another doctor at hairmyers 2 weeks later .

I went for numerous appointments at Monkland, wishaw and hairmyers before my surgery which I had yesterday in mid April 2025, lymph nodes were taken and lump was removed .I have another appointment in a few weeks for results of my lymph nodes and tissue around lump that was removed. I didn't take anything in for the first few days after my results, hearing the  word cancer struck me dumb , but 4 days later it hit me like a train the fear of cancer and the thought of not being here for my sons were overwhelming.

When I calmed down I felt incredibly lucky that my cancer is stage 1 and hopefully will be cured by the treatment I'm receiving, my surgeon says it's curable so ill take that .

From the first appointment at hairmyers to my surgery at Wishaw day surgery , I've felt so at ease and comforted knowing that every nurse or doctor I've spoken to and who have looked after me know exactly what I'm thinking and feeling. the ladies who did my scans at hairmyers, the doctor who gave me my results were amazing ,the nurses at Wishaw when I had my surgery were first class, I was putting on a brave face but having these wonderful people looking after me was such a relief and they made me so relaxed and safe

I honestly can't put into words the feeling of knowing your in the best place with the most amazing people from the admittance to the surgery to the care after my surgery  ,no rush just making sure your feeling as good as you can ,right down to the cups of tea and biscuits or sandwiches to just being there with the kindest approach ,with every person who came in .

I can honestly say these ladies and gentlemen don't get the praise they deserve ,it was the scariest experience going through surgery but with the ladies and gents in the day surgery it was the calmest place to be with the smiles and banter and first class care my worries were gone, thankyou to all the staff at Wishaw day surgery for everything they do, your all absolutely priceless and worth your weight in gold.

Dear Nelliepie

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for the staff within Day Surgery at University Hospital Wishaw.

It can be a worrying time having to attend hospital for an appointment of any kind so it is lovely to read that you have been at ease and always felt comforted by all the staff who have looked after you.

Your kind words will be shared with the full staff at our next brief and I am sure it will give them a real boost.

I hope you are recovering well at home.

Best Wishes

Jen
