"I felt humiliated"

About: Haywood Community Hospital / Walk-in Centre

(as a service user),

I went into the Haywood walk-in after a week and a half of ongoing muscle pain in my neck and shoulder. Went in as soon as it opened as the discomfort was preventing me from sleeping properly. Was seen by one of the team (didn't introduce themself) who then seemed very dismissive with me and why i was there. I used the wrong word to describe what i was feeling and they immediately responded with an attitude that i didn't expect from someone i was trying to explain myself to. I felt totally belittled. I was there because i didn't want to go to a&e as i didn't feel my complaint was an emergency, i was there at the weekend for some advice and potentially support until my GP was open. I feel this team member's attitude was disgusting and was totally uncalled for, i left as soon as possible because i felt humiliated. I should not be made to feel so small in place where i'm asking for advice.

Hi Mr E93,

My name is Wendy and I am a Consultant Nurse and Senior Lead for the Walk in Centre. I would firstly like to thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback as this is an important contribution to learning and service improvement.

Apologies on the delay in responding to your feedback.

The Walk in Centre is a nurse led service which strives to provide a good experience to all who use our service, and I am sorry that this was not your experience on the day.

All staff should introduce themselves on initial consultation and listen to you, showing empathy and being supportive. I am sorry that this was not how we portrayed ourselves in your consultation.

Due to not knowing who the staff member was I will share your feedback to all of the team and reiterate what the expected behaviours of staff are, and how these fit in with the Trusts Values and Behaviours.

I hope you are now on the road to recovery.

Wendy
