"Amazing until post op then I felt like a number"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as the patient),

Up until my procedure the care was fantastic on the ward, I was given regular pain relief and PRN and felt very supported.

I didn’t feel the same after my surgery. I waited longer for pain relief. Asking for PRN was like asking for a kidney and I just felt the nursing staff just wanted you away home so didn’t look into any of your concerns or reasons behind the pain which in my case prolonged my hospital stay.

I dread if I need to go for surgery again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent admission and surgery. It has clearly been a really difficult time for you and I am sorry that you felt your pain was looked into appropriately and your pain relief was not given regularly. I would like to apologise that we did not give you the support that you required.

I will share what has happened to you and how it affected you with the ward staff who can reflect on their actions to enable them to learn and understand how you felt. This can then lead to positive changes.

Regards

Karen Donnelly
