I went to Ingham Suite at Lincoln County hospital to have my first cycle of chemotherapy this afternoon. Obviously, this is a daunting experience, especially the first time, but I was made to feel relaxed and fully informed by the lovely staff working there today, from the lady who took my weight/height etc.. (who kept my husband informed when I was connected up so he could go food shopping)! to all the other staff members working in the ward who seemed friendly.
Special thanks must go to Livia, who was the nurse involved mostly with giving me my chemo. She explained everything clearly that was happening, repeating if I didn’t understand.
We had some lovely chats whilst she was administrating the bolus’s, which made me feel more relaxed. She went through all my medication and wrote down extra things for me (as I’d have forgotten when I got home!) She explained in depth about the various options to get my blood tests (gave me the QR code for clinic 7) which was really useful.
She wrote some bits down which would help for next time, the slower rate time for one of the meds and the wheat bag she used to reduce the pain in my arm whilst this went in.
Please could you pass my thanks on to Livia. She certainly made what could have been a really anxious experience into something that was actually quite relaxing!
I did thank her in person but would like her superiors to know this too.
Thank you
