"Great, professional, caring staff"

About: Belfast City Hospital / General Surgery Belfast City Hospital / Intensive Care Unit

(as the patient),

I had a stoma reversal in City Hospital Sept 2024. Many thanks to Mr Armstrong and his team, the operation went great. However, later that evening I was taken to ICU with sepsis. I was in a coma for five weeks, ICU six weeks total.

God bless the people who looked after me who saved my life. The only consultant whose name I could get was Mr Strange but there were two. To these two men and their team I owe my life. Thank you.

When I came out of the coma the nurses and ancillary staff were also amazing. There is not enough space here to say what they done for me. Unfortunately I can't remember all their names. So a big big thank you. I do remember Connor, Chris and Ruari.

The craic was great. Thanks a million. When I told people the craic, no one would believe me. But they and all the staff made my last week a pleasure. Great, professional, caring staff. May your God bless you all.

Good Morning Padraig,

Many thanks for sharing your experience of your time in ICU. We are very grateful for your kind words and appreciation.

An admission to ICU can be extremely challenging and a difficult time for patients and their loved ones. It was lovely to read that despite this adversity, you came out the other side with positive memories and that you were able to enjoy the craic with staff. We are touched by your acknowledgement of the caring nature of the ICU staff and that it had a profound impact by making your last week in ICU more enjoyable.

Receiving service user feedback is extremely beneficial, as it is important to be reminded that sometimes the smallest acts have the biggest impact.

I will pass on your feedback to the whole team and I will ensure Dr Strange, Connor, Chris and Ruari receive a special mention.

Best wishes from the BCH ICU team.

Jourdan Brown
