"End of life care"

Unfortunately we found ourselves in Ward 72 at the Western General Hospital as our elderly relative was on end of life care. This came as a shock to us all as they only found the clot a few hours before. 

I wanted to share our experience on Ward 72 to thank all the nurses, doctors and ward staff for ensuring that we were all looked after and most importantly our relative was as comfortable as they could be. It was the little things that made a difference; we were all given chairs to sit in overnight, teas/coffee during the night for us all and most importantly when nurses were carrying out interventions they ensured our well-being was looked after - reminding us to take 5 minutes for a walk and if anything changed they would know where we were. 

We cannot thank everyone in Ward 72 at WGH enough for the hardest 48 hours. We felt listened to and if we had questions that needed answered, they were.

A special mention to Stephanie (Ward 72 staff nurse) who was looking after our relative most of the day shift and explained all the steps we needed to take afterwards very well. A few other names that we remember were Sam and Ciara who were the support worker on that ward and Mel another staff nurse who was there during nightshift.
