About: Adult Health & Support Services / Hospital Social Work Team Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Elderly Medicine (12, 14, 18, 23, 29, 30, 32, 33,35 ,39 & 53)

(as a relative),

An elderly relative who lives on her own and who stays 35 miles from myself had a fall at home recently and thanks to assistance by neighbours she was admitted to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Although she moved wards a total of 3 times, staff always kept me fully informed and updated.

I had an initial meeting with Keri, a Senior member of Social Work Team, and Keri was excellent in her approach and understanding of my relative's needs and kept me right as regards sourcing and being admitted to a Care Home near my relative's home. Happy to report that my relative has been released from hospital and is now settling to the Care Home.

Thank you so much for providing feedback on Care Opinion, especially at such a demanding time with clearly lots going on. I am sorry to hear about your relative's fall and hospital admission, it must have been very worrying for them and yourself, particularly with you not living close by which can be an added difficulty.

I am however really pleased you felt so well supported by one of the Social Workers in our team who assisted with discharge assessment and planning. The team work very hard to ensure Supported People and their family or informal Carers have the necessary information and assistance throughout this process so it will mean a lot to them to know of your positive experience, which I will pass on to them today.

I hope your relative continues to settle well within their new residence, receiving all the care and support to benefit their daily life.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your kind words about the care your elderly relative received following her recent fall. We’re pleased to hear that she is now safely settling into a care home closer to her community.

It’s heartening to know that despite multiple ward transfers, our staff at Glasgow Royal Infirmary’s Elderly Medicine Ward kept you fully informed throughout her stay. Clear communication is such an important part of care, especially when family members live some distance away.

We’re also delighted to hear your positive feedback about Keri from the Social Work Team. Our social work colleagues play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the right support when they leave hospital, and it's wonderful to know that Keri was both helpful and compassionate during what we know can be a challenging time for families.
