"I have been left feeling belittled and undermined"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

Over the yrs my daughter has been failed, her scoliosis not being picked up, even though it was obvious and noticeable to the physio at the time and the paediatrician. Having to fight to get the proper care and treatment plus equipment.

I felt bad mouthed by clinicians on my child’s notes. It’s been damaging what they have said, especially when other clinicians see it on the notes too and they will do.

Most recently I got a letter in to say that if I don’t work with the previous OT - who I feel put my daughter down when they said she wouldn’t understand if told not to do something, which was said when my daughter was there - they might take further action. This came from a senior member of staff, and it made me feel like they are trying to force me to work with them. When I sent them an email with regards the letter they sent out, as they had requested, they have never acknowledged it, even though another clinician told me they had received it.

I have felt bullied and intimidated just because I want a different OT for my daughter. I’ve went private because of this. I believe they don’t like the fact that I’ve complained, which I’m fed up doing, but I’ll continue to fight for the sake of my daughter.

They also say they will learn from their mistakes, but they never seem to. My daughter and myself have been left feeling belittled and undermined. That trust has totally gone now, which they have caused and I’m sick of it..

Dear Sep14JR

Thank you so much for taking the time to share feedback on your healthcare experience with us via Care Opinion.

I am so very sorry to read about the situation you have described. Please be assured that this is not the person centred care that we strive to provide within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

I appreciate that this situation must be very frustrating for you, however it is difficult for us to look into specific concerns raised in this way as Care Opinion is completely anonymous.

If you would like us to look into this in more detail, I would be most grateful if you could provide me with your details so I discuss your options with you. You can leave your contact details on 01292 513942 (voicemail) and I will call you back or via email at aa.patientexperienceteam@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Kind Regards

Pamela
