"Made such a positive difference to our lives"

About: Public Health Nursing / School Nursing Service Trustwide

(as a service user),

My husband and I were at our wit's end dealing with our 5-year-old struggling to sleep at night. It was consistently taking more than 2 hours to get him settled, he wouldn't go to sleep without one of us in bed with him and then woke repeatedly through the night looking for reassurance. Bed times had become a source of much stress, we weren't getting any time for ourselves in the evenings and our sleep was disrupted multiple times every night which was impacting on our mental states. We spent a fortune on every possible solution to the problem to help our little boy go to sleep - supplements, patches, sleep sprays, rubs, special weighted toys and blankets, different mattress and bedding, noise machines etc but nothing helped and I started to dread the nights because I knew how awful it was going to be and how little sleep we would all get.

I reached out to the school nurse team for advice and Bryonie promptly responded and arranged to come to our home to discuss the issues the very next day.

She was so incredibly kind, patient, reassuring and knowledgeable. She let me explain everything without rushing, was so nice when I broke down in tears from sheer exhaustion and provided us with solid and simple strategies and information to empower us to change the situation. She was really down to earth, empathetic and personable, kept in touch with us and followed up to see how things were going and her advice was absolutely spot on, as within just 1 week our son was settling to sleep by himself in his own bed and has been sleeping far better overnight for over a month now. It's been absolutely life changing for all 3 of us to finally be getting enough sleep for the first time in 5 years and a few simple tweaks to how we do things have made a staggering difference.

I can't thank Bryonie enough for her help, we no longer dread the evenings and she made such a positive difference to our lives. I just wish I had reached out sooner instead of wasting so much time, energy and money on the issue when all that was needed was some changes to our approach and mindset. Seeing our boy happily go to bed and sleep soundly every night after years of difficulties is so lovely, he's much happier and less anxious during the day now too because he's well rested. The school nursing team are absolutely fantastic and Bryonie has been a life saver, I can't praise or thank her enough.
