"Mental health - anxiety and depression"

About: Talking Therapies Rotherham

(as a service user),

This is about Rotherham NHS, not Doncaster.

I self-referred to Rotherham after an initial call from Doncaster Talking Therapies, which was a questionnaire. I didn't score highly enough and they didn't have the resources.

With Rotherham I got a one to one appointment, in person. My mental health conditions became, in terms of their severity, major, according to my doctor's notes.

I had to resign from work in October '23 due to my mental health, I was struggling to take care of myself, to get up, to function, to maintain my personal hygiene. I developed breathlessness, shakes, sweats and lack of appetite. It was crippling. I took to bed for weeks sometimes, living on occasional packs of biscuits but mainly energy drinks. Friends were concerned, I had two welfare checks called on me.

My appointment was emotional. Holly was amazing. Non-judgemental, understanding. I surprised myself by how much I opened up - the state of my house, my binge drinking, my self imposed isolation. My inability and disinclination to engage in anything. I was listened to. The questions she asked me really helped me. I left the appointment feeling I could finally start my journey back to my old self.

Good afternoon geminidx37,

Thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback for us, it means a lot to know that we are offering the standard of care our patients deserve.

I'm sorry that things were so difficult for you from late 2023, it sounds like it was a very dark time and that your loved ones were deeply concerned for you. I can't imagine how hard it was to feel that way for a prolonged period of time, and to have had to leave work as a result of your mental health.

I'm so pleased that we were able to offer you a face to face assessment and that you felt the support given by Holly was so amazing. We want patients to know that when they speak with a therapist at Talking Therapies they can share what they're going through. I will share this feedback with Holly, and I'm sure she will be touched to hear what a difference she has made during the appointment you had together. Thank you for your openness and honesty here: other patients might see this and decide to reach out for help as a result!

I wish you all the very best with the next steps in your therapy, take care of yourself.

Kindest regards,

Faye

Clinical Lead
