"The loss of my husband and the grief that followed"

About: Talking Therapies Doncaster

(as a service user),

I lost my husband in 2023. He was not just my husband he was my best friend.

Losing him, I couldn’t possibly put into words how devastating and difficult it has been, he battled liver cancer for four years and had endured so much pain but was eternally positive and just wanted to carry on living the best we could. He had bowel cancer six years ago, he had surgery and six months of chemo treatment and was given the all clear, but just four years later we got the heartbreaking news and the liver cancer was a result of and directly related to the bowel cancer which unfortunately had spread and the tumours in his liver were non-operable this news was catastrophic and completely blindsided us.

Sarah, my counsellor was instrumental to me after my husband passed.

She was compassionate, caring, understanding and constant source of reassurance.

She listened to our story over the weeks and months that followed, it was not easy talking about such painful things but somehow Sarah made it okay for me and I felt safe and comfortable. It was not all sadness and grief we laughed together too.

I don’t think there’s adequate words to really say just how much I appreciate Sarah‘s time and thoughtfulness. I am and always will be so grateful for this service.

I will never get over losing my husband, he has left and enormous hole in my life as well as his mum‘s life and his friends and my family, we all miss him so much. He was one of a kind.

It’s hard to imagine life without him.

I can truly say that talking to Sarah on as many occasions as we did has given me the strength the confidence and the willingness to move forward one day at a time  (literally) I simply don’t know where I would be or how I would be had I not being given this opportunity and for that I will always be so grateful.

Thank you.
