"Long wait times"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Attended early April 2025 I was sent by 111 to A and E with severe jaw pain.

I arrived just after 5pm to an almost empty A and E.

However, after triage, I waited for 5 hours without being seen.

At around 7pm I asked if I could take more painkillers, and was given oramorph around 8pm and assured I was next on the list.

I left after 10pm pm when I was told they could not estimate when I would be seen. The A and E department was by that time very busy.

As I am in my 70s and had not eaten since 1 pm because of the jaw pain, I did not feel able to wait any longer

Dear couragetg69

I am really sorry to hear of your exceptionally long wait within the Emergency Department, unfortunately due to the unpredictability of the attendances we are unable to give an accurate time when people will be seen. We do operate a triage system to ensure that emergencies are given priority. I hope you have been able to access medical attention and are now having effective pain management. Should you wish to discuss this further then please give me a call on extension 29780.

Kind Regards

Esther
