My daughters had eczema her whole life. Worse in the last 5 years. Probably not helped by lifestyle and occupation. But I think these two things are because of the negative impact her skin condition has had on her wellbeing. She used lotions and potions prescribed by GP for a while. Then we eventually had to ask for her to be seen by dermatology, as enough was enough.
Light treatment made things worse. Ciclosporin was prescribed twice, didn't help, helped a little at 1st but then clinic closed and no follow up for ages ? due to lack of funding. Now on Azathioprine. To be reviewed end of May 2025. This medication has made things worse. Skins never been as bad. My daughter scratches her skin to point it bleeds, her beddings covered in blood and I am changing it constantly. We have bought cotton Pjs and special duvet, mattress protector and duvet protector. She's going to end up with scar tissue. She looks like a victim of an accident / burns or RTA. It's a shame. I feel helpless as a mother.
I would like her to try newer drugs but have a feeling she has to try the cheaper versions 1st to her detriment. I think it's unfair. She was once seen by consultants from Edinburgh who seemed very positive and encouraging. I could see a glimmer of hope with the other consultants who spoke to my daughter with such friendliness and care and attention. I will pay private if I have to. I can't see my daughter suffer much more.
