I found a small strange spot on the bridge of my nose. I went to my local surgery and they diagnosed it as cancerous. I was referred to see a specialist at the Heavitree Hospital in Exeter and a Dr Willcock said it was a squamous cell carcinoma. Then five weeks later I attended the Dermatology unit at the hospital as an outpatient where I had it excised in an operation lasting about 40 minutes. I have to say I'm pretty squeamish when it comes to things medical!, but I was well looked after and it was a very painless experience!
Because I obviously couldn't drive to and from the hospital as I wouldn't be able to wear my glasses (and my wife doesn't drive anyway) I took a bus. We live in a small village but amazingly the one bus that goes through it first thing in the morning stops right outside the hospital. Not bad for an hour's journey for £3! I have a bus pass but can't be used before 9.30am. Had booked a taxi for the return trip, as I would have had to change buses for the return trip, but they informed me half an hour before the pick up that they didn't have a driver! It was difficult to see my phone over my heavily bandaged nose but managed to find a replacement taxi almost immediately, thankfully!
