"My father's last days"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / High Dependency Unit (HDU)

(as a relative),

My father has been living with kidney failure for five years. He was receiving home dialysis for the previous two years, then hospital dialysis in Daisy Hill for the remaining months of his life.

When he took unwell, he spent his last few days in HDU. I truly believe had it not been for the unit here in Daisy Hill he would have died a lot sooner. The staff went above and beyond to make him comfortable and calm.

The nurses and doctors, including the palliative care team, were absolutely fantastic. Even on his last day when he was barely conscious, their manner of care was beautiful to watch as they continued to communicate with him about every step they had to make with medications and injections.

To me, they looked after him as if he was their own family member. I cannot praise the hospital enough.
