I attended a&e with my wife who was had extreme abdominal pain, the department was working at capacity with a predicted 5 hour minimum wait. Her condition dictated that she was seen by a triage nurse quickly then moved to the ambulance patients waiting area, it took 5 hours before a cubicle became free and I was able to sit with my wife. Her condition required her to be admitted to a ward but there were no hospital beds available, this resulted in my wife being "accommodated" all night in a corridor in the a&e dept. Whilst this was a difficult episode for my wife and me I'm not taking it as an opportunity, as many would to offer complaints, the purpose of this statement is to thank and congratulate the staff of the department for their dedication and hard work under almost impossible conditions, lack of resources and availability of hospital beds must add to their stress as much as the patients. I have no complaints about the care provided to my wife from staff who remained calm and caring and just thoroughly nice through a difficult night for everyone, they are without exception a credit to the nhs, the Trust, fgh and themselves, and I can't thank them enough.
"Great service given under extremely difficult…"
