"No xray for children "

About: Malton Community Hospital

I checked online prior to go to the Utc with a 12year old child with wrist and hand pain and swelling.

At arrival, the lovely receptionist warned us that they couldn’t xray children. We were seen anyway by a brilliant nurse who sent us to York Hospital for the Minor Injuries to have the hand & wrist xrayed. She could bot rule out a fracture.

From past experience, choldren were xrayed there. It seems that on deciding to stop that complete service, someone forgot to update the website. This created an unnecessary journey and time for us and staff there. Everyone we contacted with were brilliant. It’s a shame to have lost this service, vital to so many people in Ryedale area and surrounding rural villages. Please reinstate as soon as possible And update the website information! Thank you.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience following your visit to the Urgent Treatment Centre at Malton Community Hospital.

We’re sorry to hear that the change in x-ray provision for children caused unnecessary travel and inconvenience for you and your child, especially when dealing with pain and uncertainty. We completely understand how important it is for families to be able to rely on accurate, up-to-date information when accessing care — particularly in rural areas.

We really appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We will raise this issue with the relevant teams to ensure the website is reviewed and updated accordingly, and to highlight the wider impact this change may be having on patients in the Ryedale area and surrounding villages.

At the same time, we’re glad to hear that the receptionist and nurse you encountered provided kind and professional care. It means a great deal to the teams when their efforts are recognised, and we will be sure to pass your comments on.

Thank you again for your helpful feedback. We hope your child is now on the mend and wish you both all the very best.

Warm regards,
Patient Experience Team
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
