"Speech therapy following voice loss"

About: Royal Edinburgh Hospital / Speech and Language Therapy

(as the patient),

Following a respiratory tract infection I lost my voice & struggled to speak with clients/colleagues over the phone at work. I was diagnosed with vocal cord dysphonia following an ENT exam (& camera down nose/throat).

I was referred to Georgina, speech and language (S&L) therapist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh; she assessed me then kindly provided advice on vocal warm ups, face/head/neck exercises, hydration, mouth care and medication management. She provided written notes on her advice and an open appointment (for one year), should my voice issues recur. Georgina explained things well and gave helpful advice, she clearly has extensive knowledge of S&L issues.  My voice has now recovered and I am continuing to use her invaluable advice.
