"The treatment and staff were next to none"

About: Vale of Leven General Hospital / Day Surgery Unit Vale of Leven General Hospital / Orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I was scheduled to have metalwork removed from my left knee. It had been in place for 13 years and in order to facilitate a knee replacement I needed this operation. I was under the care of Mr Pai and his team.

I was very apprehensive about this as it involved general anaesthetic.  I am so glad I went ahead with this. The service and treatment from start to finish was absolutely fantastic. From admission to the ward, discussions with anaesthesiologist , every member of the nursing staff and consultant I was put at ease from start to finish. Everything was explained to me and all my questions answered fully.

The atmosphere in the ward ensured that all the patients were comfortable and felt at ease the whole time.  I remember getting the cannula in then waking  up in the ward. The operation went smoothly and I was soon back on the ward with the team looking after me.

My consultant came to see me and told me how it had gone and explained the next steps   After ensuring I felt ok I had tea, toast and time to rest.

Once I was fit enough to go home the staff phoned my friend who was with me an hour later. My prescriptions were ready, notes discussed and my next appointment was arranged  too.

I can only say this deserves 💯 praise as the treatment and staff were next to none

Dear Paisley21

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us on Care Opinion. We are thrilled to hear that your recent surgery to remove the metalwork from your left knee went smoothly and that you felt supported throughout the entire process.

It's great to know that you felt reassured by Mr Pai and his team, as well as the care you received from the anaesthesiologist and nursing staff. We understand that undergoing surgery, especially with a general anaesthetic, can be a source of anxiety, and we are pleased that our team was able to put you at ease by thoroughly explaining every step and addressing all of your questions.

We also appreciate your kind words about the ward atmosphere and the comfort provided to you during your stay. Ensuring our patients are comfortable and well cared for is a top priority, and it’s wonderful to hear that you felt this was the case from start to finish.

We are glad that everything went smoothly with your procedure and that the post-operative care met your expectations. It’s also great to hear that your discharge process was seamless, with your prescriptions ready and your follow-up appointments arranged efficiently.

Your feedback means a great deal to us, and we will be sure to pass on your kind words to Mr Pai, the anaesthesiologist, and all the staff involved in your care. We’re so pleased that you had a positive experience, and we wish you a speedy and smooth recovery as you move forward with your knee replacement.

Kind regards

Kevin
