"Wheelchair trim colour"

About: WestMARC (Ayrshire & Arran) / Powered Wheelchair clinic

(as a parent/guardian),

Was at my daughter’s review last week for a new wheelchair everything great clinician is lovely as daughter has had the same one since she was tiny.  When getting new wheelchair we weren’t allowed to pick a colour for the wheelchair trim just got told black and only had 4 spoke guards to choose from while there’s normally more.

The clinician said the nhs never sent any out this time and are cutting back too! Just wanted to know if this is really the case! Was disappointed for my daughter as that is the highlight for her to be able to choose and this never happened before 😕.

Deat Sep14JR,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your daughter’s recent wheelchair review. We are so pleased to hear that your experience with the clinician was positive and that your daughter has had continuity of care since she was young.

There were some stock changes to spoke guards implemented close to the end of the financial year, influenced by necessary budget controls. As a result, the range of spoke guards available was more limited than usual. It has been proposed that we permanently reduce the variety of wheel cover options as part of efforts to manage costs more effectively. However, we would like to emphasise that this proposal has not yet been finalized and is still undergoing governance approval.

There are occasions as children grow, that they will move into adult sizes. Unfortunately when this happens, the choice of stocked colours is limited to one colour.

We understand how important the ability to choose these features is, especially for children, as it provides a sense of individuality and excitement. We apologise for the disappointment this caused for your daughter.

If you like to discuss it further please call the our call centre and ask to speak myself

WestMARC
