"The care she received from everyone was excellent"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My Mother had a stroke on late March and was admitted via the Emergency Department. She was then moved to Ward 5 and subsequently had a heart attack 2 days later. We were made aware that she would not recover and she was moved into a side room.

The next day she was moved to a side room in Ward 4 - where sadly she died 4 days after her heart attack. The care my mother received from everyone was excellent. Her final days were managed really well and I cannot thank the staff enough. But not only did the staff care for my mother, they looked after the family too.

We chose to stay with her from the Saturday until Wednesday night and the ward staff did everything they could to make us feel comfortable. So in a time where everyone is quick to criticise the NHS, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved  - domestic staff, nursing staff and the doctors. You made a much loved member of our family very comfortable in her last few days.

Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback regarding your experience in the Borders General Hospital, Ward 5. I will be sure to pass this on to all staff within Ward 5. I hope your family and yourself are looking after each other following your mothers stay in hospital.

Thank you
