I gave birth at the Ulster Hospital a couple of weeks ago. It wasn’t the birthing experience I had planned. I had an emergency c-section for cord prolapse.
I want to thank everyone that was involved in my care that night on the labour ward - the obstetric, anaesthetic and paediatric team. Their quick and competent actions in an obstetric emergency were flawless. Without their exceptional care I hate to think what the outcome could have been. As a healthcare professional myself it is challenging and scary trusting a team in a high risk situation like this. However, they recognised the complication immediately and acted so professionally that I knew I was safe. They approached both myself and my partner with clear communication and empathy throughout. Although the experience was traumatic we take comfort in the exceptional care we received and this has made a huge difference in both my physical and mental recovery.
As a member of staff within the heath service (outside of maternity services) I am extremely proud to tell people of the outstanding care I received.
Thank you from myself and my family.
