"Exemplary service"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a carer),

My mum is in her 90s, has mixed dementia but resides alone within an independent living complex. In the past month has had several falls and other possible dementia related health issues.

At 8.30am she was found lying on her bedroom floor, having apparently fallen out of bed and had been there for several hours.

An ambulance attended within minutes and the crew quickly ascertained mum had not sustained any physical injuries from her fall but were so patient with mum and spoke to both me and her to find out about her recent health issues which enabled them to make informed decisions about what care she required at that time.

She didn’t need taken to hospital but they made contact with social work emergency duty team to ensure safeguards were put in place over the weekend to hopefully avert an unnecessary hospital admission.

Please pass on thanks to the crew from both me and mum. Exemplary service.

Morning Resusci Annie,

I'm really sorry to hear that your mum has been going through such a hard time recently with her dementia and several falls. I hope she is doing ok and that you are doing ok too.

I just wanted to thank you for the lovely feedback about the care received recently from our team at the Scottish Ambulance Service. This is great to read and our staff will really appreciate reading your kind comments.

We are trying to avoid unnecessary ambulance journeys to A&E where it is possible to do so, particularly in cases like your mums where there are other more effective ways she can get the important help she needs, so it is brilliant to see that this happened in her case.

It would be great if we could track down the staff involved in your mums care on our system so that we can send your positive feedback directly to them. If you'd like us to do that, we'd need just a few more details (such as full name, address, time and date of call and a brief description of the above comments so we can match it all up in our system) sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot

Thanks again for taking the time to share your story and the great feedback.

Best wishes,

Mark
